ASM-5216 Spectrometer Board

EERBEEK, Netherlands, July 18, 2011 — The ASM-5216 is the OEM version of Avantes BV’s AS-5216 spectrometer board. With industrial interfaces and a reduced size of more than 25%, it is designed for integrated OEM systems and supports all of the company’s USB 2.0 optical benches with a wide range of new detectors and high-speed communication.

Based on a 5216 Coldfire processor running at 64 MHz, it features a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter and USB 2.0/RS-232 interfaces.

Various detector types can be connected to the electronics board, including Taos photodiode arrays, Sony and Toshiba CCD detectors, Hamamatsu back-thinned CCD detectors, and Hamamatsu and Sensors Unlimited InGaAs NIR detectors.

The board is equipped with a Samtec 60-pin Card edge connector with 12 programmable input/output ports, and two analog out ports and two analog in ports. It can be synchronized with other AS-5216 boards to control simultaneous data sampling of multiple channels, all connected to the USB 2.0 high-speed interface.

Onboard signal processing reduces data to speed up scan transfer time. Data reduction can be achieved by defining a “start and stop” pixel and onboard averaging. The board can be operated by the AS-5216-DLL with many functions to control the electronics board and data sampling parameters. A USB interface cable is available for standard USB connectors.
