Applied Optoelectronics Inc. has released a 2-in. compliant universal substrate that is suitable for epitaxial growth of any III-V materials, regardless of lattice constant. A multilayer epitaxial structure allows the substrate to support an epitaxially grown film and adjust the lattice constant to that of the film. The company says that structures grown on this substrate perform better than those grown on mismatched lattice substrates because threading dislocations do not occur.
