FirstGuard Raman Analyzers
BaySpec Inc.Request Info
BaySpec Inc. has introduced its next-generation FirstGuard dispersive multiwavelength handheld Raman analyzers. Features and benefits include excitation wavelengths of 532, 785 and 1064 nm; a high-power ~490-mW narrowband laser (on 785- and 1064-m units; ~50 mW for 532 nm); proprietary high-throughput volume phase grating technology; optimally cooled detector arrays for low light sensitivity; a rugged package; and single-trigger activation.
The analyzers also include an integrated vial holder or direct point-and-shoot; a bar-code scanner or a radio-frequency identification technology reader with batch reporting and print functions; an extended long-life 5-h rechargeable battery; and easy to use Micro2020 21 CRF Part 11-compliant analysis software.
The devices weigh <2.3 kg. Qualification documentation and standard operating procedures are available, as are extended service, support and warranty programs.
Because no contact or sample preparation is needed, materials can be analyzed through plastic bags, blister packs, glass containers or plastic drums, improving worker safety from exposure to hazardous chemicals during inspection. A fleet of instruments can be cloned with the same identification methods with good instrument-to-instrument repeatability and reliability.
Depending upon the nature of the sample being analyzed, users may choose 532-nm excitation for its high sensitivity, 1064-nm excitation to suppress fluorescence or 785 nm to address both concerns. Many materials show significant light-induced fluorescence when Raman spectrometers with 532- or 785-nm-excitation wavelengths are used. The fluorescence interference in real-world samples is typically orders of magnitude higher than the useful Raman signal. The company’s new long-wavelength 1064-nm Raman spectral engines overcome fluorescence interference, enabling practical application of Raman technology in the field.
The handheld instruments perform rapid, direct, on-site Raman analysis in applications including food safety, homeland security, forensics, narcotics investigation, law enforcement, military and defense, chemical, biochemical, solar energy, plastics recycling, gemstones, anticounterfeiting and pharmaceutical/neutraceutical incoming raw material identification.
