Microscan has announced its Vision MINI smart camera, a fully integrated vision system designed for reliable performance in embedded clinical and laboratory automation applications. Original equipment manufacturers in clinical diagnostics and other life sciences are turning to machine vision to increase throughput and improve measurement accuracy. Automatic identification systems such as bar-code readers have been used for sample tracking and identification. The new machine vision system takes this ability a step further by automating critical inspection tasks such as cap presence, color matching and test tube identification, besides reading 1- and 2-D bar codes. The ultracompact system enables flexible positioning in tight spaces. The camera features fully integrated lighting, an autofocus lens, a complete AutoVision software tool set and wide-angle optics for close-range applications.
