Olympus Europa Holding GmbH has introduced two silicon oil-immersion objectives, the UPLSAPO30xS and UPLSAPO60xS. The lenses are suitable for live-cell experiments, particularly those investigating thick samples or requiring long-term imaging. Users can generate bright images at higher resolution because silicon oil significantly improves optical performance in comparison to conventional oil- or water-based approaches. The objectives feature a correction collar, making it easy to reduce spherical aberration, and optimizing resolution, contrast and fluorescence performance. The UPLSAPO30xS has 30x magnification and a numerical aperture of 1.05, and it produces highly resolved images of an extensive sample area. The UPLSAPO60xS offers magnification of 60x and a numerical aperture of 1.3, enabling researchers to produce detailed live-sample images using fluorescence, confocal laser scanning and multiphoton excitation techniques.
