LOGAN, Utah, Dec. 9, 2011 — The BeamTrack 3A-QUAD manufactured by Ophir Photonics is a high-sensitivity thermal detector that combines multiple functions — power, energy and position — in a single compact laser sensor.

It accurately measures power from 100 µW to 3 W and energy from 20 µJ to 2 J, and it accurately tracks beam position down to 0.1 mm. This provides increased measurement accuracy for high-sensitivity applications where it can be difficult to center laser beams on sensors with small apertures and recessed surfaces. The integrated beam position measurement function also allows tracking of beam wander as the beam drifts from its initial position.

The 3A-QUAD has a small 9.5-mm aperture and measures over a broad spectral range, from 190 nm to 20 µm. BeamTrack sensors divide the sensor signal into quadrants, measuring and comparing the output to determine the position of the center of the beam to a high degree of accuracy.

The sensor operates with the company’s Nova II and Vega smart displays and Juno PC interface. Each display features a “smart connector” interface that automatically configures and calibrates the display when plugged into one of the company’s measurement heads.
