Spectra-Physics, a Newport Corp. brand, has unveiled a compact industrial-grade ultrafast amplifier with software-adjustable repetition rates up to 1 MHz.

Developed at High Q Laser (recently acquired by Newport), the Spirit laser delivers the adjustable high repetition rates needed for femtosecond micromachining of medical devices and other materials, nanostructuring, pump-probe experiments and selected time-resolved science applications.

The ultrafast laser provides high average power of >4 W and fully automated adjustability over a wide range of repetition rates from 50 kHz to 1 MHz. Featuring a rugged one-box design, the laser delivers ultrashort 400-fs pulse widths with high energy of 20 μJ per pulse. It offers good beam characteristics in diffraction-limited TEM00 mode.
