DUNEDIN, Fla., March 21, 2012 — Ocean Optics’ Vivo near-infrared compact tungsten halogen light source for VIS-NIR spectroscopy across the 360- to 2000-nm range is compatible with all of the company’s spectrometers, optical fibers and sampling accessories. It delivers powerful output for reflection and other measurements. The high-power light source is suitable for near-infrared analysis of pharmaceuticals, grains and oils, as well as for food safety applications.

Its four tungsten halogen bulbs, arranged for reflection measurements at a 90° angle to the detection fiber, can be turned on and off for precision control. The powerful bulb output enables spectrometer integration times of 1 ms with some system setups. To ensure accuracy, an inner cooling fan reduces the risk of overheating the sample.

The light source can be attached to the company’s RTL stage or other standard for stability and control. Powered by an included universal supply, its tungsten halogen bulbs are rated for a 2000-h lifetime.
