QUEBEC CITY, Jan. 23, 2013 — Exfo Inc. has unveiled the WDM Investigator, which enables network operators to decrease troubleshooting time and operational expenses by providing unique identification of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) network impairments.

Offered as an option on the FTB-5240S/BP optical spectrum analyzers, it provides users with better assessment of impairments affecting DWDM networks on a per-channel basis for rapid identification of the defective component.

The WDM Investigator provides insight into link characteristics (including polarization-multiplexed signals and carved noise) and signal impairments, and assesses their severity. Examples include polarization mode dispersion depolarization, crosstalk, nonlinear effects and carrier leakage. It helps pinpoint causes of failure in DWDM networks quickly and accurately.
