Ultrafast Self-Compressed Laser

EAST LANSING, Mich., Feb. 17, 2013 — Biophotonic Solutions Inc. has launched the femtoAdaptiv ultrafast laser with adaptive pulse self-compression. The system is aimed at the high-volume market for oscillators being used for nonlinear optical imaging.

It automatically precompensates high-order dispersion via adaptive optics. By using proprietary and patented MIIPS (multiphoton intrapulse interference phase scan) technology, the laser can control the output center wavelength from 650 to 1050 nm and pulse duration from 5 to 500 fs in milliseconds, without moving parts.

When the system is used for multiphoton imaging, it delivers order-of-magnitude shorter laser pulses and brighter images. Users can implement the latest imaging techniques, such as single-beam coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering and stimulated Raman scattering microspectroscopy, without requiring a second laser. The femtoAdaptiv synergistically combines an ultrabroadband laser oscillator with the MIIPS automated pulse compression technology.
