dPHOTOThe S7815 photo integrated circuit from Hamamatsu Corp. combines a photodiode and signal processing circuit that amplifies the photocurrent by up to 1400 times. It has a small active area that provides output nearly equal to that of a photodiode with a 20 x 20-mm active area. The IC has a spectral response range of 300 to 1000 nm, with peak sensitivity at 650 nm. Dark current is typically 1 nA, with a rise time of 0.2 ms and fall time of 0.8 ms. The device is suitable for light-detection applications such as television dimmer controls and as a light dimmer for LCD panels.
