MILPITAS, Calif., May 21, 2013 — JDSU’s two new series of lasers, ST and FCD561, are geared toward the manufacturing and life sciences markets, respectively.

The ST series fiber laser pump, powered by a proprietary diode laser chip, offers 140 W of output power within a 106.5-µm core to speed metal cutting and shaping processes. Optical and mechanical design innovations enable thermal management and ultralow optical loss.

The FCD561 frequency-converted-diode continuous-wave lasers enable targeted fluorescence pumping of specific fluorophores at their ideal absorption band, minimizing the amount of needed incident laser power and reducing the potential for pumping of adjacent fluorophores within a sample. This results in the ability to observe population data that may not have been resolvable previously.
