Mid-Wavelength Infrared Polarizer

FREDERICK, Colo., May 23, 2013 — Meadowlark Optics Inc. has introduced a high-contrast polarizer and liquid crystal variable retarders, attenuators, solid-state shutters and polarization rotators for the mid-wave IR.

The wire-grid-on-silicon polarizer has greater than 10,000:1 contrast ratio over the 3- to 6-µm region and is 0.7 mm thick. It has a large acceptance angle of up to 20° and can be provided with a clear aperture up to 150 mm. Custom sizes and geometries are available.

This polarizer’s 144-nm aluminum wire spacing on a silicon substrate is antireflection coated to provide high transmission. It is ring mounted for ease of handling and marked for the polarization transmission direction. Standard ring outer diameters are 1 and 2 in., but custom sizes and shapes of unmounted polarizers are also available.
