Point Grey Research Inc.’s two new models of Blackfly ultracompact cameras — the BFLY-PGE-14S2C-CS and the BFLY-PGE-23S2C-CS — are suited for applications including machine vision, astronomy, microscopy and biophotonics.

Both models use Sony Exmor CMOS sensor technology, which combines the speed of CMOS with the low noise, high dynamic range and high saturation capacity of a CCD. The BFLY-PGE-14S2C-CS features a color IMX104 1/3-in. CMOS rolling shutter sensor capable of 720-pixel resolution at 60 fps with a full-well depth of 19,000 e. The BFLY-PGE-23S2C-CS uses a color IMX136 1/2.8-in. sensor capable of 1080-pixel resolution at 27 fps, and offers dynamic range of ~70 dB. Both models deliver low temporal dark noise (4 e-) and support exposures up to 30 s.

The 29 × 29 × 30-mm cameras support cable lengths of up to 100 m using Gigabit Ethernet and are compatible with third-party imaging libraries via the GigE Vision standard. They feature Power over Ethernet, temperature and status monitoring, in-field updatable firmware, color interpolation and look-up table and gamma.
