NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I., July 4, 2013 — Among the more than 40 enhancements of Hexagon Metrology’s 4PC-DMIS 2013 metrology software is Width Construction, which facilitates the construction of width features from two opposing sides of a notch, tab or other similar surface. The construction is useful for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing applications that require the width of a datum in feature control frames.

The software focuses on the collection, evaluation, management and presentation of manufacturing data to reduce scrap, improve throughput and build lean manufacturing operations.

Other enhancements include a Collision Detection Path line that blinks when selected to ensure there are no missed probe collisions, and a ClearanceCube definition that allows collision-free movement around complex geometries without a CAD model. Users set two points at opposing corners of the measurement piece or holding fixture, and the software automatically creates the ClearanceCube definition. The same tool can be used to adjust offsets and toggle work-planes.

The software also includes SolidWorks, JT and CATIA v6 Direct CAD Translators; updated support for CATIA v5, Pro/E and Unigraphics; and updated Direct CAD Interface support for CATIA v5, Pro/E and Unigraphics. The Enhanced Custom Reporting tool presents fast, easy-to-read interactive gages and graphs to PC-DMIS reports, enabling users to see the percentage of features out of tolerance or near tolerance limits at a glance.
