Aperio AT2 Image-Capture Device

VISTA, Calif., July 11, 2013 — Leica Biosystems’ Aperio AT2 image-capture device holds up to 400 “eSlides” that can be scanned automatically or semiautomatically for bright-field applications. This reduces the need for pathologists to travel or ship slides, saving on overhead and technician hours.

At 20× magnification, the whole-slide line-scanning instrument delivers sustained throughout of 50 slides per hour at <60 s; at 40× magnification, it delivers 20 slides per hour at <155 s. The device can hold 8 GB of memory and features a 1 Gb/s Ethernet network interface.

The 59.7 × 40.6 × 64.7-cm scanner weighs 129.5 lb and features a 24-in.high-resolution LCD monitor. It delivers automatic tissue-finding accuracy, focusing, automated magnification selection and <2% rescan rate. The device can be integrated with network sharing and precision decision support tools to enhance laboratory efficiencies and reduce turnaround time.
