DUNEDIN, Fla., Aug. 13, 2013 — Ocean Optics has introduced field-replaceable slits for its proprietary Jaz, Torus and QE65 Pro miniature spectrometers. The laser-cut slit and aperture assemblies allow the user to switch applications by replacing a few screws, and without realignment.
The company says that the ability to change the slit manually helps overcome the inherent limitations of slits: namely, the lower resolution of a larger slit, and the decreased throughput of a smaller slit.
For example, if QE65 Pro users need sensitivity for low-light applications such as fluorescence, they can replace a larger slit with a smaller one to avoid saturation in absorbance applications. Similarly, a Torus configured to resolve closely aligned emission peaks for one application can be adjusted to make low-light-level measurements for a different one.
