JENA, Germany, Aug. 19, 2013 — A new complex 3-D micropositioning unit from piezosystem jena can be integrated into medical devices for use in multiphoton imaging.

The device achieves a positioning accuracy of ±0.25 µm with a total motion range of 5 mm per axis. The piezo-driven motion system includes an optical encoder to supply position information.

The device controls components within a medical multiphoton endoscope, enabling complex optical systems to be placed directly into the wound. This capability provides data on basic cellular functions and local influencing factors, offering new insights into the pathogenesis and course of disease.
