NEW BERLIN, Wis., Aug. 28, 2013 — ABB’s PCS100 UPS-I and PCS100 AVC inverter-based power-protection systems guard sensitive industrial loads from sags and other voltage disturbances for industrial and manufacturing applications.
The UPS-I uses energy storage (ultracapacitors, batteries, etc.) to allow a system to remain operational through short outages and deep sags. The system’s inverter-commutated utility disconnect improves transient performance, allowing the UPS-I to more quickly interrupt the connection to the utility and take over the load while minimizing the disturbance to the connected load.
The AVC protects sensitive loads by providing voltage sag correction, continuous voltage regulation and load-voltage compensation. It provides the required equipment immunity from the level of voltage sags expected from the AC supply.
Both systems can be combined to provide complete power disturbance protection. They are >90% efficient, virtually maintenance-free, and sized to protect three phase loads from 150 kVA to 25 MVA.
The devices have applications in data centers as well as the semiconductor, plastics, automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, food processing/packaging, cable/fiber optics, textile, and chemical, oil and gas industries.
