DÜSSELDORF, Germany, Nov. 14, 2013 — Schott has added RFG92 monolithic fiber optic faceplates to its medical technology line for use in digital x-ray sensors employing CMOS technology. Manufactured according to customer specification, they measure 320 × 320 mm, but special sizes up to 450 × 450 mm are possible. They come in round, square and rectangular formats and are manufactured hermetically for use with x-ray scintillators. The company says that, whereas earlier faceplates were assembled from several smaller ones, a complete faceplate is now a single component, providing an advantage both for optical performance and x-ray attenuation, which is rendered more uniform across the faceplate. The devices offer improved transmission within the visible range while utilizing the same x-ray attenuation as previous products. Because they are made without lead additives, they are RoHS-compliant without the need for exemption permits.
