Stream 1.9 is the latest version of Olympus’ materials science imaging software for industrial microscopy applications. It has new dedicated functions that include automatic-measurement and coating-thickness evaluation, and it is compatible with a range of proprietary microscopes, including upright systems and stereomicroscopes.

For measuring thickness, the system uses the Calotest, or ball crater, method. Another function performs edge-detection measurements automatically using pattern recognition in a single live image; a validation tool provides a pass/fail flag for each measurement.

The software’s image acquisition and processing capabilities include tilt compensation and extended-focus image. It takes standard measurements such as lengths and angles; its more complex threshold-based methods perform phase and grain analysis, and determine porosity and particle distribution. It is compatible with Windows 8 and Microsoft Office.
