SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 24, 2014 — Finisar Corp.'s 3-GHz XFP-RF optical transmitter offers a wide radio-frequency dynamic range in a small-form-factor module.

The wavelength-tunable transmitter is suitable for applications such as cellular backhaul, distributed antenna systems, GPS signal distribution and dense wavelength division multiplexing, and provides wideband wavelength tuning of up to 88 different wavelengths across the entire C-band. It saves up to half the space and power consumption of current nontunable solutions, according to the company.

It installs into Finisar's rack-mount system, which hosts up to 10 transmitters in one rack unit. It enables network equipment providers to design ports into existing optical platforms.
