MONROVIA, Calif., Aug. 22, 2014 — The new Sigma femtosecond laser tube-cutting system from Miyachi America Corp. can be used with both metals and plastics, making it suitable for creating stents and other medical devices.

Using a Jenoptik disc laser platform, the tube cutter uses a cold ablation process for high-quality edges. Post processing is minimal, with only ultrasonic cleaning required for materials like nitinol. No internal water cooling is needed for even the smallest diameter tube.

The system also integrates Miyachi’s Delta Motion control software.
