KENLEY, Surrey, England, Aug. 26, 2014 — Planoconvex and planoconcave toroidal mirrors for pinpoint focusing in spectroscopic and imaging applications are offered by Optical Surfaces Ltd. The mirrors have two different radii, whose axes are oriented at 90° to each other. They have advantages in applications where a beam must be focused and folded. Rather than using both a spherical and a plane mirror for this purpose, both functions are combined in one element, enabling increased energy throughput and more compact designs. Toroidal mirrors correct for the astigmatism that results when a spherical mirror is used off-axis. The company produces custom toroidal mirrors in materials including Zerodur, BK7 and fused silica.
