TRENTON, N.J. — Princeton Optronics Inc. has introduced 8-W vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays that tout an efficiency of >40 percent at 60 °C and a mean lifetime of >100 years at an operating temperature of 70 °C.

The devices aredirectly surface-mountable on printed circuit boards (PCBs) and can be used for high-volume manufacturing. They also have illumination sources for 3-D sensing, imaging and gesture recognition for computers, tablets and cellphones. The arrays can be used for structured light or time-of-flight applications.
