The PCM 2000 personal laser scanning confocal microscopy system has new capabilities and flexibility, according to its manufacturer, Nikon Inc. Simultaneous three-channel confocal fluorescence is possible with the two modules: A three-color excitation module contains three lasers; a three-color detection module separates the red and near-IR emission signals, directing them to PMTs, and directs the green signal by fiber to its PMT. A scanning transmission differential interference contrast accessory allows the user to capture two channels of fluorescence images while also capturing a single scanning transmission image. Version 3.5.0 of Compix's SimplePCI software drives the system, expanding data handling and display capabilities.
