DALGETY BAY, Scotland — Square flat-top: 5 mrad half angleCustomized refractive diffusers from PowerPhotonic Ltd. enable beamshaping of high-power pulsed or CW lasers.

A freeform direct-write process is used to fabricate these highly nonuniform surfaces in fused silica.

The diffusers are designed to impart a defined intensity pattern in the far field. A variety of configurations are available, ranging from simple Gaussian diffusers to more complex beamshapers that create flat-top or annular spots.

All versions have tightly controlled angles of divergence ranging from fractions of a degree to 10° and potential transmission efficiencies >99 percent.
