Beam Steering KitNew Scale Technologies Inc. has announced the DK-M3-RS-U-2M-20-L beam steering developer's kit for precise point-to-point beam positioning and dynamic scanning up to 100 Hz.

The system's two piezoelectric rotary stages have a familiar galvo-scanner form factor but are only 12 mm in diameter. A closed-loop controller is embedded in each stage, making the system more than 25 times smaller than traditional systems with external controllers. A built-in controller simplifies system integration, enabling direct input of high-level motion commands from a system processor via standard digital or analog servo interfaces.

Each smart stage rotates a mounted aluminum-coated mirror 20° at up to 1100° per second with an angular resolution of 0.05°, or 1 mrad. Patented piezoelectric motors, along with position sensors, bearings, drive electronics and embedded firmware, are all integrated into the miniature rotary stage. With 3.3-V DC input, it is designed for handheld and portable instruments.

Applications include medical lasers and imaging systems, industrial measurement devices, spectroscopy instruments, laser printing, and laser engraving.
