SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 17 — Spectra Physics Inc. has announced the Quasar 532-95, a high-power, high-energy, green wavelength addition to the Quasar line of hybrid fiber lasers.

The 532-95 delivers >95-W green average output power, >475-μJ pulse energy and high single-mode beam quality. TimeShift programmable pulse capability results in adjustable pulse widths, shapes and repetition rates for laser micromachining process optimization. Tunable pulse widths from <2 to >100 ns is featured, with adjustable repetition rates from single-shot to 3.5 MHz. A near diffraction-limited single-mode beam is output at 532 nm.

The device is designed for applications in high-throughput manufacturing of electronic packages, ceramics, PC boards, semiconductors, photovoltaics and lithium-ion batteries.

A laser in which the lasing medium is an optical fiber doped with low levels of rare-earth halides to make it capable of amplifying light. Output is tunable over a broad range and can be broadband. Laser diodes can be used for pumping because of the fiber laser's low threshold power, eliminating the need for cooling.
