PUCHHEIM, Germany, June 9, 2016 — Scanlab AG has announced the SCANalign image processing system for the intelligent monitoring and calibration of laser processing applications requiring strict dimensional tolerances.

The system augments scan systems via ultraprecise calibration of the entire image field. By enabling automatic process alignment and visual quality control of laser processing results, the processor is able to prevent rejects while cutting costs. It uses a high-precision calibration plate to achieve absolute calibration of laser coordinates for dimensionally accurate laser processing, with obtainable precisions that can be smaller than the process laser's spot size.

For applications with a 255-mm focal length and 1064-nm laser wavelength, absolute precisions under 10 μm can typically be achieved. Applications of the system include micro-welding, via-hole drilling, microstructuring and decoating.
