NEW TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan — Everlight Electronics Co. Ltd. has announced the APM-16D17-05-DF8 and APM-16D17-06-DF8 three-in-one sensor modules for use in environment brightness detection and smart switching in smartphones, tablet PCs, residential smart lighting and digital signage applications.

The modules use a specially coated photodiode with an optical response similar to human eyes. They have a common I²C interface, allowing them to be driven with a supply voltage of 1.7 V. They are optimized to sense the ambient brightness and adjust the backlight of a screen to the most clear and comfortable settings.

The APM-16D17-05-DF8 is a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) sensor with a compact, energy-saving design. It has a receiving angle of 35° and is designed to be mounted behind a 2-mm hole in the front panel. Its illumination sensitivity range is 0.471 m to 53280 lx. The APM-16D17-06-DF8 uses a lower cost standard LED sensor with a receiving angle of 40° and an illumination sensitivity range of 0.536 m to 69000 lx.
