BEDFORD, Mass. — UV SourceDiversified Technologies Inc. has announced the DTI Coreless Transformer UV Light Source System, a high-intensity method of producing UV light that outperforms linear-lamp-type UV disinfection units.

The system incorporates a bulb with a predetermined amount of an element to efficiently emit UV light when excited to a high-current plasma state. The sealed-bulb, pulsed, air-core, radio frequency-powered DTI Coreless Transformer UV Light Source System provides the plasma density and temperature required to optimally excite noble gas and noble gas/mercury mixtures.

Permitting higher pressure and power density than transformer-type coupled lamps with 1.5-MW peak, 500 kHz and <5 percent duty cycle, the device should allow a lamp system with 50 kW electrical input and a germicidal optical efficiency nearing 50 percent, far exceeding traditional linear electrode-based mercury lamp systems.
