BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Mini-SpectrometerThe C13555MA mini spectrometer from Hamamatsu Corp. is designed for color measurements and the testing of light sources.

The thin, flat spectrometer measures 80 × 60 × 12 mm and weighs 90 g. The mini spectrometer’s compact housing contains a CMOS linear image sensor, optical elements and driver circuit. The CMOS linear image sensor has 512 pixels and high sensitivity equivalent to a CCD. Because it is based on CMOS sensor technology, the C13555MA consumes less power and is less expensive than CCD-based mini spectrometers. Those two qualities, along with compact size, allow the C13555MA to be used as a module and integrated into portable spectrometers.

With its sensitivity to 340- to 830-nm wavelengths and a spectral resolution of 2.3 nm FWHM, the C13555MA mini spectrometer can acquire spectral data for color measurement and testing light sources that emit visible light. Spectral data can be acquired by guiding input light into the mini spectrometer through an optical fiber and transferring the measurement results to a PC via the USB connection.
