NIMES, France — Non-Magnetic HexapodA nonmagnetic hexapod for precision motion control in high magnetic fields has been announced by Symétrie.

Designed to position an 80-kg payload, this customized nonmagnetic hexapod is aligning an ultrahigh vacuum chamber in 6° of freedom to be collinear with the symmetry axis of the 2-tesla magnet and trap atomic ions. It offers travel ranges of 10 mm in translation and 4° in rotation, with a height of 155 mm in midposition. The hexapod also provides a repeatability of ± 0.6 µm at the pivot point.

To be compatible with the 2-tesla static magnetic fields in immediate proximity and reach high-precision performance, ultrasonic nonmagnetic motors and absolute linear encoders have been integrated.
