Pacific Silicon Sensor Inc. developed its quadrant silicon photodiode with a spectral response from 350 to 1000 nm. The PSS-QP50-6SD has a diameter of 7.8 mm and includes a 42-µm gap between quadrants. The device, which is housed in a TO-8 case with a glass window, has a circuit containing four amplifiers, each with a gain of 104. Applications include position sensing, aiming systems that use a laser beam, and signal null detectors used in servo systems to maintain light-beam position.
