A quantum cascade laser starter kit intended to give research engineers plug-and-play access to this technology is available from Alpes Lasers SA. For applications in optics, spectroscopy and sensing, the kit includes the company's FP-QCL 1000- to 1020-cm -1 pulser or optional distributed feedback 950- to 980-cm -1 laser. The air- or water-cooled laser housing guarantees 5 W of cooling power at less than -35 °C, features low-impedance stripe-line power transmission and allows direct voltage measurement of the laser connection. The kit also includes a pulser timing unit.
