A 40-A, 5-V output allows users of the Model 5405 high-power laser diode driver from Newport Corp. to operate two laser diodes in a series. The system uses high-power laser diode mounts, and both constant current and constant power control modes are available. Front facet power can be detected using a high-power thermopile detector, such as Newport's 818T series, and is displayed in watts. An external modulation input port has a 3-dB bandwidth of 2.5 kHz and can be used for external voltage control of the output current set-point.
