Coherent Photonics Group, Semiconductor Div., developed a modular laser diode system, the F-Package, for applications in soldering, epoxy curing, medical therapeutics and optical pumping. A 0.5-m, large-core fiber delivers 200 mW to 2.5 W at wavelengths from 650 to 980 nm. The 120 x 260 x 360-mm system plugs into a standard wall socket and includes an air-cooled heat sink; an optional thermoelectric cooler is available. The microprocessor-based system enables the user to control operating temperature and laser diode current.
