An attenuator-switch device that provides power control and isolation switching in a single element is available from ProtoDel International Ltd. A simple 1 x 1 switch can be used for optical circuit protection in sensitive receivers, for example. Using the company's all-fiber technology, the component also features a stable variable attenuator to control up to 20 dB and provides >60-dB isolation when circuit protection is required. The device offers low insertion loss and low backreflection. It is available with a polarization-maintaining-fiber option.
