lLoopAnalog Devices Inc. has introduced a 2.5-Gb/s dual-loop laser diode driver for optical network systems. The ADN2840 continuously monitors optical output power and corrects variations caused by changes in operating temperature and laser diode degradation. Its dual-loop capability reduces the time it takes to market new transmitter designs and allows the use of laser diodes from multiple sources. Other features include 80-mA maximum modulation current, 100-mA maximum bias current and 80-ps typical rise time. User-programmable fail and degrade alarms allow the user to monitor bias, modulation and photodiode currents separately. This device also enables users to modulate low-frequency amplitude of the eye for supervisory data channels.
