DiCon Fiberoptics Inc. introduces a filter tap coupler that uses thin-film technology to tap a small percentage of light from a transmission line for monitoring purposes. Tap ratios of 1 to 5 percent are available with spectrally flat performance over a 100-nm range in the 1310- or 1550-nm window. The company says its miniature cylindrical housing offers superior temperature and humidity resistance. Tap signals can monitor power level, signal-to-noise ratio, bit-error rates or wavelength drift without disrupting carrier signals.
