laWaveguideA compact erbium-doped waveguide amplifier (EDWA) gain block has been launched by Teem Photonics. The Metro EDWA includes a pump laser with a thermoelectric cooler, a pump/signal multiplexer, a 980-nm kill filter and a tap coupler with a photodiode for output monitoring. The device measures 13 x 2.7 x 1.3 cm and is designed to meet metropolitan optical network requirements. It delivers gain of >10 dB over the entire C-band. Optional features include a plug-and-play evaluation board to speed up testing, control software and an output isolator. The devices are pigtailed with single-mode fibers and packaged in a housing with two connecting holes positioned diagonally for attachment to an electronic board.
