BUFFALO GROVE, Ill., April 27, 2011 — The Silicon Video 10C6 color and 10M6 monochrome cameras from Epix Inc. produce 10-megapixel progressive-scan images with an active programmable array resolution of 3840 × 2764 pixels and 12 bits per pixel. Programmable area of interest allows resolution to be reduced for higher frame rates, as do column and row skip modes and binning. Also offered are windowing, snapshot mode and electronic rolling shutter. Asynchronous mode is available for triggered capture.

The programmable pixel feature allows selection of a slower clock for longer exposures. The combination of the programmable pixel clock and area of interest allows many frame rates for image capture.

The RoHS-compliant cameras offer low-noise digital signaling, compactness, several interface cable options and no latency issues because there is no memory. Proprietary XCAP software provides convenient control of all camera operations and can be used for image capture to disk and for image processing. It has a “capture and adjust” dialog for selecting pixel clock frequency, integration and exposure times, capture resolution and trigger control.

The color model camera provides automatic white balance, manual adjustment of RGB gain, and extensive color balance controls.

The cameras offer asynchronous capture to acquire an image or images in response to a trigger signal. They have a strobe output signal to synchronize an LED strobe. A single RJ45 cable connects the camera head to a PIXCI frame grabber. The cable carries power, camera control signals, the programmable pixel clock and video to the camera, with no separate power supply or power cable required.

The rugged enclosure system is sealed to keep out particulates, liquids, spray and vapors.

Pixel size is 1.67 × 1.67 µm, pixel clock is 25 to 64 MHz, dynamic range (linear) is 65.2 dB, supply voltage is from 5 to 12 V, power consumption is <638 mW at the maximum data rate, and operating temperature is from -40 to 85 °C.
