SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 3, 2015 — A new 16-MP image sensor from OmniVision Technologies Inc. captures 4672 × 3504-pixel images at 30 fps, allowing burst photography and zero shutter lag at full resolution.

The OV16880 is built on the company’s PureCel-S stacked die technology. The 1/3-in. sensor introduces new 1-μm-pixel technology that enables ultrahigh-resolution image and video capture, as well as advanced features such as phase detection autofocus.

It also features buried color filter array (BCFA) technology, which reduces pixel crosstalk and improves signal-to-noise ratio performance. It supports interlaced high dynamic range (iHDR) timing functionality to ensure high quality image and video capture under varying lighting conditions.

The sensor is capable of capturing 4K video at 30 fps, 1080p video at 90 fps and 720p video at 120 fps.
