LITTLETON, Mass., Nov. 26, 2012 — TeraDiode has introduced the 2-kW TeraBlade-2000, an ultrahigh-brightness direct diode laser for cutting steel and other metals in industrial applications.
When used with wavelength beam combining (WBC), the laser delivers the brightness previously provided only by larger, higher-cost and more-power-consuming fiber, disk and CO2 lasers. Wavelength beam combining was invented and patented by MIT and is exclusively licensed to TeraDiode.
The TeraBlade 2000 operates at 970 nm and has a 100-μm output fiber. Because of its modular design, it is scalable up to 6 kW to cover a variety of applications in the cutting and welding markets.
WBC direct diode is the third generation of multikilowatt high-brightness industrial lasers.
