New 3-D laser displacement sensors from Cognex Corp. use laser triangulation to extract 3-D information, allowing inspection of parts regardless of contrast or lighting conditions.

The DS1050, DS1101 and DS1300 sensors offer submicron measurement for optical character recognition and presence/absence applications. They come with standard 2-D vision tools, as well as 3-D tools for height, plane fitting, plane-to-plane angle, volume and cross section.

The sensors are bundled with Cognex Designer software and the new VC5, which can control up to four 3-D sensors, as well as factory-floor communications.
