The SyMPL laser-based environmental sensing system from Mirrorcle Technologies Inc. expands the capabilities of microelectromechanical system (MEMS) mirrors by adding time-of-flight distance sensing.
The mirror-based 3D lidar system is a compact, lightweight, plug-and-play solution with programmable scanning to yield 3D point cloud data for use in robots or other industrial settings. The system works with a 905-nm laser with low average power while efficiently sensing objects of varied materials and reflectance out to distances of ~30 m with 1-cm distance resolution.
The system enables users to easily control scanning over >10000 × 10000 discrete angles, allowing fast and versatile scans across the full field of regard or to increase the density of points in specific regions of interest.
