With Higher Output Powers, New Wavelengths and Beam Sizes
CARLSBAD, Calif., Jan. 17, 2007 -- Melles Griot Laser Group announces new models of the 56 RCS series, a line of high-performance diode laser assemblies with 50-mW output at 408 nm, 36 mW at 442 nm, 45 mW at 642 nm, or 75 mW at 658 nm. Other models are available with output ranging from 408 nm through 830 nm.

MellesGriotRCSLaser.jpgThe self-contained 56 RCS series platform includes drive electronics, satisfying the requirements of both OEM and end-user applications, as well as analog and high-speed modulation capability with a bandwidth in excess of 300 MHz (<1 nsec rise/fall time). Advanced optics-positioning techniques provide repeatable and consistent optical performance with far-field beam circularity of greater than 95 percent, precisely controlled beam divergence, and accurate beam waist location, the company said.

These new models are designed with a 0.7-mm beam diameter to simplify external fiber coupling with commercially available components. The modulation feature can be used to adjust output power or completely turn off laser emission when limited or controlled sample illumination or excitation is critical. Built-in modulation simplifies OEM system design and reduces overall cost and size by eliminating the need for external acousto-optic modulators and tunable filters, mechanical shutters, and attenuators. According to the company, these lasers are ideal for fluorescence, metrology and reprographic applications, among others.
