Coherent Inc. has enhanced its Sapphire series lasers with a 594-nm instrument that can excite a range of red fluorescence fluorophores, including Texas Red and Alexa Fluor 594, and the new mFruit dyes.

Based on proprietary optically pumped semiconductor laser technology, the device is available with either free-space (Sapphire 594 LP) or fiber-pigtailed (Sapphire 594 FP) output and is offered with output powers of 20, 50 or 75 mW, respectively, and 40 mW ex fiber. It features power stability of <2% over 2 h and low noise of 0.25% RMS from 20 hZ to 2 MHz. Free-space models deliver a collimated, TEM00 beam with M2<1.1, low beam divergence (<1.3 mrad) and high pointing stability <5 µrad/°C.

Measuring 125 × 70 × 34 mm, the instrument provides identical form, fit and function compatibility (optical, mechanical, electrical and interfacing) with all other Sapphire LP and FP models, independent of wavelength or power class, simplifying integration for OEMs and end users. It is equipped with USB, RS-232 and analog interface ports for ease of installation and operation.
