Optiwave Corp. has released version 2.0 of its EDFA_Design optical fiber amplifier and laser design software. It addresses all aspects of erbium-doped fiber amplifier engineering, from optimizing associated optical components to estimating system link budgets and power penalties. Featured are a variety of optimization procedures, Er/Yb co-dopant models, new passive and user-defined components, and analysis and graphic tools. Applications include multistage amplifiers for WDM networks; reflective, split-band, bidirectional and gain-clamped amplifiers; as well as fiber lasers and broadband sources.
